Quite some time after the original Star Wars Rap (okay, 6 years), this is just amazing work, and very-geeky-funny:

Behind the scenes at Coraline

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

I bumped into this very interesting article on the making of Coraline at CGsociety (the Computer Graphics Society). I loved the book (another great one by Neil Gaiman), and am really looking forward to seeing Henry Selick’s stop motion movie. The makers even used a rapid prototyping system to produce some of the parts for this movie, and some really imaginative work went into the whole production. Good read.

I’ve been a fan of Pierre Coffin’s work for quite a while now, and tonight I bumped into one I hadn’t seen before:

This year’s must-see movies…so far

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Here’s a couple of movies that you really can’t miss this year:

- Watchmen
I’m re-reading the graphic novel right now, a brilliant classic that looks to become one of the major movies of the year.

- Star Trek
Although I don’t care much for prequels generally, this one is a must-see

- Transformers 2
Yah…Michael Bay will probablyt do a great job, but less Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox (although…Megan Fox…) and more robotty goodness please

- X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Loads of SFX goodness featuring my favorite X-Man of all time, Wolverine. Oooh…I’m getting goosepimples…

- Coraline
A brilliant novel by Neil Gaiman in sweet stop-motion by Henry Selick. Okay, this one really should be on top of this list, also due to the fact that it’s out now. Go see it. Run!

- Fanboys
It’s just out, can’t wait.

Leo as a gamer?

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Erm…what?! Not sure whether to laugh or cry…

Leonardo DiCaprio has agreed to star in Atari, a film about video game pioneer Nolan Bushnell, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Writers Brian Hecker and Craig Sherman sold a script to Paramount at the end of last week which detailed how Bushnell went from fixing pinball machines to forming the Atari Corporation in the early ’70s. The company was eventually sold to Warner Communications for $28 million.

Bushnell was also involved in the creation of Pong and set up the Chuck E. Cheese’s Pizza Time Theatres restaurant chain.

Not that I mind. I’d probably have copped a feel myself back then. Now? No. Here’s why:

Why Batman whoops Iron Man’s butt

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Yowza…the trailer for the new Batman movie (The Dark Knight) is out…and shows why Batman is still my no. 2 favorite super hero (after Wolverine, of course). Also, however cool Iron Man is, this will trump the stainless steel dude.

See the new trailer right here.

Futuroscope still rocks

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I just got back from a short trip to Futuroscope (english site / french site) in Poitiers, France with Robert and Liesbeth (which they gave me as an early birthday gift…AWESOME!), and although I’ve been there twice before it still rocks. In fact, since my last visit a couple of years ago they updated appox. 50% of the experiences. Yowza!

It’s basically a theme park about movie technology, interactivity and effects, hosted in a series of very futuristic buildings.
There are some 20 “experiences” to enjoy, ranging from a fun kiddy park (skipped :-) ) to full-on Omnimax 3D movies. My favorites are still the 3D Omnimax and the live show at the end of the day (using projection on water-jet screens, lighted water jets, multi-color lasers, fire and smoke effects and fireworks), but the new stuff is very cool as well. Some are “immersion” rides using motion and screen tech simultaneously, some are closer to thrill rides like the “Danse avec les robots” (“Dance with the robots”) where you’re strapped into a seat connected to a huge industrial robot which then performs a choregraphed dance to music. It’s all great.

I always realy, really enjoy going anywhere or doing anything with Robert and Liesbeth, and add the really great Futuroscope to the mix and you have one awesome mini-trip, well worth the long drive!
Thank you guys!

Oh yeah, Liesbeth took some piccies, find them here on Flickr.

Small update: Liesbeth put a small clip of the dancing robots on YouTube:
